Many of us carry invisible scars, and for some, the brain's alarm system can feel like it stays on alert long after the storm has passed. June is National PTSD Awareness Month—a time to foster understanding and gentle solidarity for those navigating the aftermath of trauma.

When anxiety or painful memories try to hijack your mind, one of the most grounding things you can do is bring your brain back to the safety of 'here and now.' This issue introduces a brain-science-backed approach to intercepting stress signals before they take over your morning.

The Curated Routine

Brain Shield Morning

This simple 4-step morning ritual is designed to help your body and mind notice the safety of the present moment. Feel free to reorder or skip these tasks to better fit your personal flow!

  1. 1-Sec Extra Inhale
Take a deep breath through your nose, snap in one more quick inhale at the top, and let out a slow sigh. Repeat it.

  2. The Ice-Cold Reset
Lingering worries often follow us to bed. Spend just 3 minutes pouring your thoughts or tomorrow’s to-do list onto any paper. Clear your "mental cache" to make room for deep sleep.

  3. Left-to-Right Eyes
Release the tension stored in your neck and shoulders from a long day. Relaxing your physical body activates the parasympathetic nervous system, easing you into a restorative state.

  4. Tetris Break
Lower the lights to conclude your sleep ritual. A dim environment serves as the final cue for your body to transition from "doing" mode to "being" mode.
